spirit of radio

A long time ago before there was blogging, I think, I belonged, sort of still do, to a small community of experimenters and communicators. Know to the world over as radio hams. Don’t snigger if your my age or older you’ll instantly think Tony Hancock. Tony Hancock is a British comedian 1960’s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Hancock) and his sketch about mundane conversations about the weather and playing chess with someone in another country.

Until 1981 hams were the only private individual in the UK that were allowed to communicate via electronic means. Unless you count land line phone (no mobiles, you say that to kid today see the response) or posting Audio cassettes to each other (people did it??). These days you can reach millions from a mobile phone that fits in the palm of your hand, via blogging, twitter or Facebook. To be a ham you had to pas exams on the theory of radio and the etiquette of using the airwaves. They will let any idiot on the internet and here I am.
